This portrait by Norman Carter of Alexander Roulston is now in the collection of the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. A flying officer with the Royal Australian Air Force, Roulston was killed in an aircraft accident on 11 May 1944, less than two months after the 1943 Archibald Prize exhibition.
