Norman Carter FJ Ludowici, Esq

92 x 80 cm

The subject of this portrait was a prominent businessman, Frederick John Ludowici (1873–1969), who managed the company established by his father – JC Ludowici and Son Limited, 'Mill Belt Manufacturers, Tanners, Curriers and Importers’ – from 1914 to 1959, remaining on the board until 1966.

Norman Carter also painted a portrait of FJ’s older brother Charles Ludowici – who had run the company from 1891 to 1913 and from whom FJ was estranged – which was in the 1944 Archibald Prize.
