Wendy Sharpe was born in Sydney in 1960, studied at the City Art Institute and the University of Sydney, and received the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship and the Dyason Bequest (including a residency at the Cite Internationale des Arts, Paris) 1986. She has travelled throughout Europe, the Middle East and the US.
She is a painter and part-time teaching at East Sydney TAFE and the University of Sydney, and has exhibited widely. Sharpe won the Sulman Prize in 1986 and has previously entered self-portraits in the Archibald Prize in 1990 and 1995.
'I am not a portrait painter… but my work often has an autobiographical element and references to mythology. I paint about myself and me as an artist.’
