David Bromley Strongest man of the games

152 x 240 cm

This portrait by David Bromley of weightlifter Dean Lukin was a finalist in the Daily Telegraph Sporting Portrait Prize, held in conjunction with the Archibald Prize 2000.

Adelaide-based Lukin won a weightlifting gold medal for Australia in the Super Heavyweight Division at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. 'Dean has got a wonderful head with strong, piercing eyes. He is a man of incredibly few words though there’s a lot written on his face,’ says Bromley.

Born in England in 1960, Bromley arrived in Australia in 1964. His portrait of Scott Hicks was hung in the 1999 Archibald Prize.
