Linda Bowden The others

This artwork is made from cast and plate Corten steel and is based on two chair legs that reminded me of figures. The wooden legs were scaled up and moulds made from them so that I could cast the curved sections of the work in Corten steel – a somewhat difficult process.

The others could be read as mother and child, mother and father, or perhaps two shrouded figures. In a sense the title of the work suggests that they are different, ‘not like us’ but outcasts.
