About
Kaapa Tjampitjinpa is among the most instrumental artists of the early Papunya Tula art movement. He was the principal painter of the Papunya School murals and was the first chairman of Papunya Tula Artists when it was established in 1972. Prior to this he made and sold artworks independently in Papunya, NT.
By the mid-1970s Tjampitjinpa had mastered a layering technique with a defined background and middle ground overlaid with more graphic elements within the foreground. His earlier works are dominated by symmetry, with simple graphic elements arranged tightly within the composition, as is evident in this commanding work.
