About
Shortly after arriving in London, Robert Klippel met William Ohly a collector of 'primitive' art and owner of the Berkeley Galleries in London. Klippel joined the large group of Australian and international artists living at Ohly's property 'The Abbey' in Hertfordshire on the outskirts of London. Here he rented a room and a wooden pavillion in the gardens as his outdoor workshop. Also living at The Abbey was painter James Gleeson, who became a good friend of Klippel.
