Past exhibitions

Since the late 1990s, Tatzu Nishi has been creating out-of-scale and out-of-place encounters in public spaces around the world. He has transformed street lights, parked cars and monuments, building new spaces around them and altering their setting.

Born Tatsuro Nishino, he works under a variety of names as part of each project, including Tatzu Nishi, Tatzu Oozu and Tatsurou Bashi.

In Sydney, as Tatzu Nishi, he has transformed the Gallery’s two grand equestrian sculptures by Gilbert Bayes, The offerings of peace and The offerings of war, enclosing them in playful constructions that appear like domestic living spaces. Visitors can walk inside to experience the surreal new spaces of Nishi’s War and peace and in between.
